UCLG and CIB organize first Voluntary Subnational Reviews workshop on 12 March

Following the session on Voluntary Subnational Reviews at the UCLG Retreat on 18 February, which served as a valuable first encounter, UCLG and CIB are organizing the first-ever VSR workshop on 12 March, from 13:30-16:30 CET. The workshop will count on the participation of both local government associations’ representatives and field experts of countries that are engaged in the preparation of VSRs or local government reports to contribute to the Voluntary National Reviews in 2021 in 8 pilot countries, as well as other partners.

Partnerships for the SDGs: Sweden and Zimbabwe work together to promote gender equality

Partnerships are key to the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ICLD works with several partners in promoting local democracy and sustainable development in line with the Agenda 2030. For example, in Zimbabwe, ICLD partners with Gender Links to strengthen local governments reach several goals, through ICLD’s Zimbabwe Leadership Training Programme.

Connective Cities virtual expert consultation to support EALGA’s project idea

One of the four project ideas developed in the framework of the recent Connective Cities dialogue event on the role of LGAs in localising the SDGs was put forward by the East African Local Governments Association (EALGA). EALGA would like to create a regional forum for functional cooperation and engagement for local governments and State Ministries on promoting regional integration through local economic growth and development for sustainability in East Africa.

An authentic City-to-City connection: The success of Barcelona and Maputo!

The Flemish city of Ghent publishes Voluntary Local Review on the SDGs!

The city of Ghent is the first Belgian local government to publish a SDG Voluntary Local Review (VLR). They launched their report in September 2020, during the Week of the Sustainable Municipality in Flanders. The report gives an overview of indicators for all SDGs. In the coming years, they will develop follow-up reports for each P: People in 2021, Prosperity in 2022 and Planet in 2023. Peace and Partnership will be taken into account in each report.

Register your local initiative as a UCLG Local4Action HUB! (deadline: 5 September)

The Local4Action HUBs are a new initiative by UCLG aimed at localizing the Sustainable Development Goals, in practices and initiatives. The Local4Action HUBs should provide a platform for showcasing, recognizing and scaling-up local policies and processes and for fostering synchronization between activities and parts of the broad network while accelerating the constituency’s impact on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. It’s an opportunity to bring local approaches to sustainability to the forefront of the international conversation.
