The European Commission has launched an open public consultation on the future of EU development policy to inform a future revision of the European Consensus on Development, the EU’s policy statement that commits the EU to eradicating poverty and building a fairer and more stable world, which dates from 2007.
Effective local taxation: an area that is generally overlooked by the international community, but that has a huge potential for local development. Not only does it provide with basic extra revenue to provide basic services and products, local taxes are also more resilient towards corruption, since the politicians are in direct contact with those being taxed.

A local response for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals
The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) has launched a new five-year program, “Sustainable and Inclusive Communities in Latin America” (CISAL, 2015-2019, $20 million), funded by the Canadian government’s department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development. The objective of CISAL is to strengthen local governments in Colombia and Peru in their management of the impacts and benefits from mining development, as well as to train them to play a leading role in building more sustainable, resilient and inclusive communities.
