At the UCLG World Congress, VVSG participated in various SDG sessions, presenting concrete examples of Flemish municipalities, showcasing the supporting tools materials of VVSG on awareness raising, policy planning, and SDG monitoring and reporting and sharing its vision on how to move forward on SDG localization.

2020 marks the 5^th edition of the Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation.

In december the CIB Working Group and UCLG Learning organized webinars about best practices from Local Government Associations on SDG implementation and reporting in three different languages (ES, ENG, FR). 

At this years’ annual CIB meeting, which took place in Durban in September, different CIB members committed to assisting their partner Local Government Associations (LGAs) in their work on influencing the national reports to the next UN High Level Political Forum on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In 2018, 48 other countries will be reporting on the SDGs – by assisting LGAs worldwide, local and regional governments might be better represented at this HLPF.

The Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC)  Steering Committee met on 3 and 4 September in Mexico, hosted by the Mexican Minister of External Relations. UCLG Champion on Development Cooperation, Berry Vrbanovic, Mayor of Kitchener and Vice-Treasurer of UCLG, supported by the CIB Working Group Secretariat,  attended the meeting on behalf of the local and regional  constituency represented by UCLG WS and FOGAR in this forum.
