UCLG is working in the framework fo the Local Government Cimate Roadmap, facilitated by ICLEI. The main messages towards Member States include the need to start working on an actionplan to gengage local governments in climate change policies, supported by capacity building, finance and technology and to renew multilateral partnership partnerships to enhance and support local, low-carbon, resource efficient, climate resiliten action in the period towards 2020.

Local and regional governments have set up the Compact of Mayors, under the leadership of UCLG, ICLEI and C40 and invite members to commit to the Compact. In addition, the networks are promoting the Transformative Actions Programme, designed to address and create mechanisms to find ways to address key issues around sub national climate finance and provide tools to deisng and implement climate actions. Members can enter their innovative approaches online and can be selected as frontrunner cities.

Preparations

On 1 and 2 July, Rhone Alpes and UCLG are organizing the World Summit on Climate and Territories. The conference expects 800 participants, and include the participation of the French President François Hollande, the Vice President of the European Commission, Maros Sefcovic and the European Commissioner in charge of Climate and Energy, Miguel Arias Cañete. The conference will have a particular focus on the partnership with civil society.

At the invitation of the City of Paris, UCLG will organize its World Council in Paris during COP21, on 5 and 6 December. On the 7th the City of Paris organizes a high level 1000 Mayors Summit.
