SALAR International, the international development organisation of the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR), has marked the first year of its PACE Local: Local Public Administration and Civic Engagement programme in the Republic of Moldova.
Working closely with local authorities, national institutions and development partners, the programme has contributed to local public administration reform and strengthened the role of municipalities in the country's European integration process. Key achievements include the launch of the Network of Local Ambassadors for European Integration, support for voluntary municipal amalgamation, and capacity building on digitalisation, artificial intelligence, energy efficiency and access to European funding.
The programme has also promoted dialogue between central and local government while creating new opportunities for European cooperation and knowledge exchange. PACE Local is funded by the Government of Sweden through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
