The 11 Principles of Effective Governance adopted by the UN ECOSOC in 2018 apply to all public institutions and are based on the following pillars: effectiveness, accountability and inclusiveness. The 11 Principles can be best implemented at the local and regional levels of governance, where the results and impact of effective governance are most visible and where local public institutions can gain the trust of citizens, users, service providers and partners. The session aims to raise awareness about these Principles and discuss how to create an enabling environment to anchor them at local and regional levels, particularly in Africa.
