2022 will be yet another exciting year for world organisation United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), as it is a world congress year. UCLG organises its world congress every three years; the 2022 edition will take place in Daejeon, Korea, from 10-14 October. At this milestone event with 3000 representatives from local governments worldwide, UCLG will present its 'Pact for the Future' - a renewed strategy for the organization and its members. Working on ecological transition and resilience is one of the pillars of this Pact, under the heading of 'Planet'. Read more on the Pact for the Future and the other climate action work of UCLG in 2022 below.
Planet as one of the pillars of Pact for the Future
UCLG was mandated to develop a Pact for the Future of Humanity, a new long-term strategy for the organisation, at the UCLG World Council in 2020. The development of this Pact started in 2021 and will be finalised in 2022, in the run-up to the World Congress. The axes of the Pact - People, Planet and Government - will be the guiding force on the key themes that UCLG delivers on during the year.
