The European Commission launched a new website, the "EU Aid Explorer". The establishment of the new web tool is an effort to improve transparency, accountability and donor coordination. The EU Aid Explorer provides easy access to clear, complete and accurate data on development and humanitarian aid around the world. This way, EU citizens and implementing partners can examine the use of donor funds, and donors themselves can improve coordination and effectiveness.
With the provision of 50 billion euros a year to help the people most in need in the world to overcome poverty and advance global development, the European is the world's primary donor of aid. The website provides a selection of information from the EU Aid Explorer and OECD aggregated in which more information can be found on donors, beneficiaries, sectors to which development and humanitarian aid was provided and trends in development and humanitarian aid for the last ten years. The data used in the new tool is taken from a range of sources: the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development), UN OCHA (United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs), EDRIS (the European Commission's European Disaster Response Information System) and the IATI (International Aid Transparency Initiative) registry.
