June 27, 2014     cib

As part of the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Authorities (GTF), UCLG and the CIB Working Group would like to provide you an update and call to action on the consultation process for the “Localization of the post-2105 development agenda”. This consultation process, begun in April, will continue until the end of October 2014. The GTF has taken the lead in this consultation process along with UNDP and UN Habitat.

  1. National and territorial dialogue in partner countries (May to July 2014): Local dialogues are taking place in Armenia, Botswana, Cameroon, Ecuador, El Salvador, Ghana, Jamaica, Malaysia, Malawi, Pakistan, Philippines, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Venezuela, Uruguay and Yemen. The underlined countries are those in which an action plan is already being discussed.

  • For CIB Members: We urge CIB members to encourage the respective Local Government Associations in these countries to get into contact with their UN Country Teams (UNCTs) to ask to be involved in the definition and implementation of the consultation. Attached you will find more information on the consultation process in each country.

  1. Regional and Global Meetings (July to October): as a follow-up to the national dialogues taking place up until July, at least two global meetings will be taking place in Ecuador and eventually in Ghana. Additionally, a global synthesis report will be presented in September in New York, and the final report will be delivered during a High Level Event (in the first or second week of October).

  • For all CIB Working Group Members: We would like to emphasize the fact that these dialogues are an open process, and encourage all members to take advantage of other events to hold discussions and debates on the localizing 2015 issue. Attached you will find a draft calendar of possible international events organized by GTF members and other stakeholders.

  1. E-discussions and outreach through partner organisations: E-discussions on the “localization of the post-2015 development agenda” were launched on the 19th of May and will be open until July 18thon a specially allocated web-space: http://www.worldwewant2015.org/localising2015.

  • For all CIB Working Group Members: We encourage you to take an active role in these e-discussions, to promote the consultation and make contributions via Twitter using the #localizing2015 hashtag, and referring to the CIB working group using @UCLG_CIB and the Global Task Force using @GTF2016. Attached you will also find a concept note and briefing on the e-discussions taking place on this website.
