Trust between governments and citizens is essential for a well-functioning democracy with an active civil society. Therefore The Hague Academy for Local Governance organises from 7 to 18 April 2014 a training course on Citizen Participation and Accountability in The Hague, The Netherlands.
The course will explore how local authorities can increase the social and financial accountability towards their citizens. Participants will work on case studies from different parts of the world with respect to transparency and integrity of civil servants, the accountability chain, the participation ladder, advocacy skills, the role of media and do's and don'ts in participation processes. Different perspectives will be experienced in a role-play and study visits to municipalities, active citizen groups and participation projects in the field of urban planning social cohesion and law and order.
