More than 8,000 participants from 151 countries worldwide have attended World Urban Forum 6 in Naples. This Forum is held every 2 years and is an initiative from the UN-Habitat, who represents the United Nations (UN) on issues regarding Sustainable Urban Development.
The mandate of UN-Habitat is to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the ambition to provide adequate shelter for all. To achieve this goal, the UN-Habitat attemps to bring everyone together who is involved with these issues, to share their ideas and best practices on a global platform. The World Urban Forum is a good example of a setting in which this idea is executed.
One session on this platform was very memorablem, namely the Mayors Roundtable. It was a powerful and dynamic session with the presence of more than 400 Mayors and Local Authority Associations in one room to discuss the needs of municipalities and how they can be supported in the future. Now there is an article that looks back at this memorable session.
