This Policy Briefing released by the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) provides some insight on the differences between Western and Chinese concepts of foreign aid. Because China is a continually growing economic force, and because of its involvement overseas, it is being seen more and more often as a potential partner in development. Because approaches in Western countries differ so much from Chinese approaches, this cooperation often comes with complications.
The Policy Briefing not only makes an attempt to clarify these differences in approach to development cooperation, but it also ends with a few policy implications resulting from the involvement of China as a major player in development cooperation. Involvement of China in African countries is also a main focus of the short article. This interesting read is available in the Library section of the CIB Working Group website, as well as on the website of the IDS.
