The UCLG Decentralisation and Local Governance Committee, together with LSE Cities and and UN Habitat has recently launched a survey on Urban Governance. This survey, designed for participation by local governments, hopes to initially inform the Urban Age Conference taking place this year in Dehli, which brings various stakeholders together including policy makers, academics, and experts to discuss the role of urban governance in development. Even more importantly, the results of this survey will be used to contribute to the creation of the 4th UCLG Global Report on Decentralisation and Local Democracy and to the greater discussion on the post-2015 agenda which is still in debate at the United Nations.

It is especially evident after the UN Development Cooperation Forum that the world is becoming increasingly more urban. Urban governance is therefore one of the central themes of post-2015 development, and the outcome of this survey and study will help to further inform and shed light on this fact. UCLG Members and local governments all over the world are encouraged to participate in the survey via this link, until Friday, August 29, 2014

The main goals of the survey are the following:

  1. Adress the urban governance "data challenge", which at the moment consists of a lack of wide information on different governance arrangements even though information on urban governance is constantly increasing;
  2. Establish a platform for individual cities to identify and share best practices in the realm of urban governance;
  3. Look into new ways of disseminating information on urban governance to a wider public and better inform dicusstions and policy analysis.
