In response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, one of the World Bank’s largest social accountability programs, the Ethiopia Social Accountability Program (ESAP), found a way to safely keep open lines of communication between the Ethiopian people and their government: call-in radio shows. This use of media more than doubled the reach of the program, and gave voice to citizens to talk directly with government officials about services and policies related to COVID-19. ESAP is part of the government’s commitment and the World Bank support to expanding access to quality basic services.
