GIZ implements a pilot project set up to develop elements of green infrastructure at selected sites in East Amman, improve access to services and help address the disruption of the social fabric. As component on the broader project ‘Improving Living Conditions in disadvantaged Areas in Amman’ (ILCA) a city coopertion between the municipalities of Amman and Barcelona was initiated.

Agreement 2018

The two municipalities signed an agreement in 2018 to exchange experience on topics related such as urban planning and public space accessibility. Based on this partnership and the close link to the project’s work with the municipality of Amman, ILCA initiated the support and organization of a study tour from Amman to Barcelona to foster exchanges, debate and reflection on various themes related to the built environment. A study tour of the greater Amman municipality to the municipality of Barcelona was organized between 3-6 February 2020 at which exchanges took place on topics such as participatory neighbourhood in urban rehabilitation projects, integrated Public Open Space design, e.g. including greening, accessibility, social cohesion and sustainable design, and the institutional set up: roles of different municipal levels (e.g. districts) and the interdisciplinary work and coordination of services for integrated planning.
