The Federation of Canadian Municipalities once again partnered with the Government of Canada's department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) to celebrate International Development Week, which ran from February 2 - 8. The highlight of this week was a webinar on tourism development for local economic development (LED), hosted by FCM.
Nearly 200 participants from 16 countries joined us to learn from three Canadian municipal experts' work with their counterparts in Nicaragua, Cambodia and Ukraine. Participants discussed innovative approaches to tourism development, further supporting the important peer-to-peer exchanges fostered by FCM international projects. This webinar was held in English only. A French-language webinar will be held on Tuesday, March 18th, on municipal strategies to attract investment and enterprises.
Please visit the FCM website for more information on this upcoming event.
FCM is pleased to announce the launch of phase II of the Haiti-Canada Municipal Cooperation Program (MCP). FCM's partnership with the des municipalités du Québec and the city of Montreal began in 2011 in response to the January 2010 earthquake that devastated Haiti. Over the next five years, thanks to nearly 21.4 million dollars provided by the Government of Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development and in-kind contributions from program partners, FCM will continue to work with Haiti's local governments to improve municipal services, good governance, cooperation, and local economic development.
