On the latest edition of the European Days of Local Solidarity, the Barcelona Provincial Council has produced a short video (in Catalan with English subtitles) aimed at the new government teams of municipalities of the province to explain and advocate for the importance and promotion of transformative development cooperation from local governments. The video seeks to provide elected councillors and practitioners with arguments in favour of development cooperation whilst dismantling false beliefs.
As a member of PLATFORMA, and with the aim of encouraging and promoting the public policies of international cooperation that the local governments of the province of Barcelona are committed to, the Barcelona Provincial Council participated to the European Days of Local Solidarity.
Through the video it is advocated that cooperation is of vital importance for local governments as well for raising awareness about human rights, peace, and sustainability through education. Moreover, knowledge exchange between local governments helps to learn about certain issues to improve public policy and to respond to global challenges. This demonstrates that every local government can make a change and should therefore take global impacts of its policies into account. This way, local governments can carry out transformative development cooperation when they are supported by other local governments to build a fairer and more sustainable world.
