Addressing the opening session of a two-day regional training on ‘Developing Local Government Association Communication, Lobby and Policy Strategies’ organised by the East African Local Government Association (EALGA) in collaboration with the Municipal Development Partnership for Eastern and Southern Africa (MDP-ESA) in Arusha, Tanzania, Hon. Eriyo said apart from promoting good governance, local democracy, provision of services at the local levels and decentralization by devolution, local governments in the region had a critical role in the integration process. She disclosed that in all the four stages of the East African integration process namely Customs Union, Common Market, Monetary Union and Political Federation, local governments had provided and continue to provide critical inputs when the Partner States were negotiating the relevant Protocols.
