The second edition of the annual State Level Meeting of Local Governments will take place on February 7th and 8th in the City Council of the Galician city of Lugo, Spain.
The event is co-organized by the Confederation of Cooperation and Solidarity Funds (CONFOCOS), the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) and the Galician Fund of Cooperation and Solidarity. The first State Meeting was held in Cordoba in November 2021 under the leadership of the Andalusian Fund of Municipalities for International Solidarity (FAMSI), and attracted an audience of over 400 people.
In this edition, Lugo, in Galicia, Spain, will be hosting and bringing together political leaders and representatives, technical staff and members of all the main entities and networks, committed to international cooperation driven from the local level and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
The main objective is reflecting on the public policy of development cooperation of city councils, county councils, associations of municipalities and municipal networks. The event seeks to reveal the efforts of municipalities, highlighting their role in achieving a fairer and more equitable world, both in the local and global contexts.
The impact of municipal cooperation in the so-called southern countries, the implementation of the 2030 Agenda at the local level or the new legal framework affecting local administrations are some of the topics to be addressed. The program also includes a wide range of debates on new strategies in global citizenship education and on technical cooperation carried out by municipal staff.
