A new collection of publications regarding the implementation of development cooperation as local public policy has been launched. It is the result of the work carried out by the Provincial Council of Barcelona together with its municipalities.
The first 4 issues of this new collection of guides entitled Strategic planning of local development cooperation policy are now available on the website of Diputació de Barcelona in Catalan and Spanish. They are addressed to political leaders and officers of the local governments of the province, and they aim to accompany them in the task of defining a strategy to deploy their development cooperation policy:
- “Development of a municipal plan for cooperation in development. General methodological guidelines”, contains the basic aspects that must be considered in the process of developing, in a participatory way, a master plan in this area.

“Guidelines for transversalizing the approach to policy coherence for development”, focuses on offering the elements to be considered so that when designing and planning the development cooperation policy, all areas of the corporation are counted on and contributed to its objectives and values from all areas of work.

“Guidelines for evaluating local development cooperation plans” provide city councils with the point to consider at different times throughout the life cycle of a master plan so that in the end a quality assessment can be carried out aimed at informing public policy decision-making.

“Guidelines for mainstreaming the gender approach in local development cooperation plans” aims to effectively guarantee the transversalization of this approach when planning development cooperation, as well as in other instruments and elements of this public policy.
These guides have been drawn up based on the reflections that are generated, with the accompaniment of different experts, within the framework of the Work Space in the field of strategic planning of development cooperation, in which 25 local entities of the province participate. The next issues of the collection that are underway will address the coherent planning of cooperation with international action, the planning of the communicative aspect and the planning of education for global.
