After the success of the first edition in 2018, which was won by the Belgian city of Ghent, a second edition of the EU Cities for Fair and Ethical Trade Award will be appointed in 2020. Apply for the Award before the 12th of June 2020 and demonstrate why your city is a leader in sustainable, fair an ethical trade.

This initiative of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade celebrates EU cities that actively contribute to sustainable trade, consumption, and production. As the environment and livelihoods of people in other countries are affected by the purchasing decisions of EU consumers, the implementation of fair and ethical trade can lead to the encouragement of responsible consumption patterns and the creation of more sustainable production opportunities in other countries. Therefore, the Award focuses on the trade between EU cities and non-EU markets, illustrating how these cities set an example for a values-based trade agenda through their own policies and activities. The Award aims to connect cities through knowledge-sharing and networking opportunities, allowing them to collaborate in the process of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDG 12 on responsible consumption and production.

The Award Ceremony will take place in October 2020. As Fair and Ethical Trade Award winner you will receive the opportunity to implement a development cooperation project with ITC support that benefits you and a partner city in a developing country. Besides the Award, the ceremony also includes Special Mentions, which grants access to the Fair Cities Network.

Does your city deserve a prestigious recognition for promoting sustainable, fair and ethical trade? Apply for the EU Cities for Fair and Ethical Trade Award and gain the visibility, support and network to achieve your current and future goals.
