“Municipalities Network Advocacy on Sanitation in South Asia (MuNASS)” is a project, Municipal Association of Nepal (MuAN) is implementing in sector of urban sanitation with technical collaboration of Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO) in Nepal. Among the three major work scope of MuAN includes advocacy and lobbying in line to which the project is being implemented. The Executing Agency of this project is United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pacific (UCLG ASPAC), Jakarta, Indonesia and supported by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF). This project is designed for the period of 16 March 2018 – 31 October 2020 for MuAN and May 2018 – October 2020 for ENPHO as a pilot project for five municipalities each in Nepal and Bangladesh. MuNASS project, in particular focuses on Faecal Sludge Management policy advocacy at municipal level. The project emphasis on strengthening capacity of local municipal association and municipalities in designing and implementing robust and developing effective policies on creating sustainable financing strategies on sanitation, particularly on Faecal Sludge Management(FSM) and Non-Sewered Sanitation (NSS). Likewise, improving sanitation policy framework with the joint collaboration with associated sanitation level stakeholders. MuNASS project is currently being implemented in Nepal in the following five municipalities: 1) Lahan (Siraha, Province 2); 2) Dhulikhel (Kavrepalanchowk, Bagmati Province); 3) Lamahi (Dang, Province 5); 4) Waling (Syangja, Gandaki Province); and, 5) Bheemdatt (Kanchanpur, Sudurpaschim Province). Furthermore, this project, among others, focuses on capacity building, implementing national policy and strategy on sanitation with focus on Faecal Sludge Management (FSM) and non-sewered sanitation system in line with SDG 6.2, as well as to conduct a feasibility study to develop a sustainable detailed project planning and action plan that improves accessibility on financial option through different funding mechanism such as public-private partnership, cooperation with banks and development agencies and communities. Implementation of sanitation and investment plans with the development and improvement of accessibility of financial options through different funding mechanisms, are being planned for this project.
