On July 1-2, the World Summit on Climate and Territories takes place in Lyon (France). The mobilisation of non-state actors is one of the key conditions for success at the next International Conference on Climate Paris Climat 2015 (COP21) which will take place from 30th November to 15th December 2015.

It is crucial to include subnational governments and local communities in the discussion in order to be able to limit and tackle the challenges of climate change efficiently. ‘The purpose of the Summit is to mark the non-state actors’ commitments in the fight against global warming, with particular emphasis on the territorial potential in terms of greenhouse gas emissions reduction.’ Furthermore, it ‘also aims at feeding the official negotiation text with widely shared proposals and amendments with a view to strengthening measures taken at a local and regional level.’
