Have you implemented a practice to promote participatory democracy in your city, region, or territory between January 2020 and March 2023? Then you could be recognized with the IOPD Award 2023!
The International Observatory on Participatory Democracy (IOPD) is an international network open to all cities, organizations and research centers interested in learning about, exchanging and applying experiences of participatory democracy at the local level. Since 2006, it has worked together with United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG).
As it does every year, the IOPD will be delivering the award "Best Practice in Citizen Participation," which recognizes successful experiences of local and regional governments in participatory democracy, citizen deliberation, community empowerment, open government, democratic innovation, and public participation.
The 17th edition presents as a new feature the inclusion of categories to classify and evaluate the practices: citizenship, decision, or deliberation. The nominations will be evaluated by two expert juries in two phases and an open evaluation through the online platform Participate OIDP.
The local government winner of the best practice will receive the award, a diploma, a special dissemination of the experience and a paid trip with accommodation for one person to the 22nd Conference in Rio de Janeiro, which will take place from November 6 to 8, 2023.
The deadline for applying to the IOPD Award is May 31.
The call is also open to apply to be part of the juries that will evaluate the nominations for the 17th IOPD Award. All local government experts and practitioners are welcome to apply. We invite you to complete the jury registration form before May 24. You can find more information here.
