After launching a declaration of municipal engagement for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2016, the awareness raising campaign of the Association of Flemish Municipalities (VVSG) in Belgium really kicked off in 2017.
The success of the SDG agenda depends on local action. Mobilizing and training local officials to rally behind the SDGs is thus a perquisite of achieving this shared agenda.

On 28 February, the CIB Working Group secretariat hosted a call on the national voluntary reporting process on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in which several CIB members are engaged. 2017 will see the second round of voluntary reviews, which includes 40 countries.* Main topic of discussion was how to include a local voice and perspective in the national reports.

In Brazil, (newly elected) Mayors are receiving extensive support from the National Confederation of Municipalities of Brazil (CNM) with regard to the localization process of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
