For the period under review and taking into account the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Academy focused its efforts on digitalization and online activities to enable UCLG-Africa to remain connected with its Members, Networks and Partners.
The main activities carried out focused on :
1. Enlargement of the UCLG-Africa Partner Network through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with The African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) established in South Africa.

In December, UCLG Africa, through its African Local Governments Academy (ALGA) and the Moroccan Association of Presidents of Communal Councils (AMPCC), through the Network of Locally Elected Women of Africa in Morocco (REFELA-Morocco), organized an international training seminar on the theme: "Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women and Girls for the Implementation of SDG 5 and the African Vision on Women's Rights", in Rabat.

The African Local Government Academy (ALGA) is organizing an international seminar on gender equality in Morocco, from 9-13 December. This event will be an opportunity for participants to be informed on the progress made in the implementation of global and continental commitments on gender equality, and to raise awareness among them on concepts, issues, challenges, actions and good practices in the empowerment of women and girls in order to achieve SDG 5 and the African vision on women's rights.

For UCLG Africa, 2018 will be a pivotal year. Key event is the 8th edition of the Africities Summit in Marrakech, Morocco, on 4-8 December 2018. However, the African Regional Section of UCLG and its African Academy of Local Authorities (ALGA) have many other activities lined up.

December 2016 saw the official opening ceremony of the African Local Governments Academy (ALGA), an institute that aims to become a "genuine strategic lever and a UCLG-Africa spearhead for the professionalisation and the performance of human capital within the African territories". Key activities include monitoring of HR management at the local level, trainings and support to networks at the local level.
